The best wall for bedroom wallpaper is usually the one that looks intentional with the furniture in place. Start with the wall behind the bed, then look at it from the doorway. If the headboard covers a mural's main subject, a window cuts through the pattern, or another wall is the one you actually see first, change the plan before choosing a print. The bed is staying; design around it.
For a bedroom wallpaper accent wall, make five decisions in order: wall, pattern scale, palette, material, and measured size. That sequence keeps a good-looking product photo from making choices that belong to your room.
Choose the wall you see, not just the wall behind the bed
Stand in the bedroom doorway and take a photo. Which wall holds your eye before you see the rest of the room? Now sit or stand where you normally use the bedroom. The bed wall may be the obvious choice because it already anchors the largest piece of furniture, but it is not automatic.
On each candidate wall, note the headboard height, nightstands, windows, doors, switches, vents, and any slope in the ceiling. A scenic design needs uninterrupted space for its important detail. A repeat can tolerate more interruptions, though a window or door still affects where its lines and seams land.
Designer and DIY writer Diane Henkler described choosing a bedroom wall that flanked her bed with windows and was visible from the foyer. That is her project, using a different wallpaper. The useful lesson is to check both the bed and the entry view, rather than picking from a floor plan alone.
If you are between two walls, place a photo of each beside the design you are considering. Draw the outline of the bed and other large furniture over the image. When the pattern's best part disappears behind a dresser, you have your answer.
Let the headboard set the pattern scale
Look at the wallpaper twice: from the door, where a small repeat may read almost like texture, and from the bedside, where you can see each motif. Neither view is more important; you will live with both. A tall or wide headboard changes the visible field, especially with a mural whose subject sits in the middle.
Current Howdy designs show three different ways to approach the same wall:
If you want… | Consider this real Howdy design | Check before ordering |
A restrained repeat | Soft Sage Geometric, a sage-and-beige Art Deco fan motif designed by Howdy Wallpaper | Ask how large one fan will print at your wall size. See whether its curves still show above the headboard. |
A more graphic rhythm | Vintage Blue Tile diamond pattern credited to Noonday Design | Check how the diamonds meet at the outer edges and around a window. View the blue beside your bedding, not just against a white screen. |
One continuous scene | Soft Cloud sky mural in peach and beige | Confirm the full-wall preview and crop. Mark which clouds will remain visible above and beside the bed. |
These are design examples, not photos of finished Howdy bedrooms. A product name may mention “peel and stick” even when its page offers several material options; select the actual material in the configurator.

One practical reason to inspect the layout: Patty Johnson told Apartment Therapy that matching the strips of her guest-bedroom wallpaper took longer than she expected. Her paper was from another maker, and the room had other changes too. Even a quiet-looking repeat deserves a seam and pattern-scale check before you order it for an entire wall.
Judge the background color in your room's light
When a pattern covers a whole wall, its background often occupies more visual space than its named motif. A sage fan design may contribute as much beige as green. A blue diamond repeat might bring a strong blue field into a room that already has cool bedding. Look at the ground color, the secondary colors, and the scale together.
If a sample of the exact design and material is available, place it beside the bed, paint, floor, and wood finish. Photograph it in daylight and again with the bedside lamps you use at night. Then view it from the door as well as close up. A tiny swatch can confirm color and texture, but it cannot by itself show the size of a motif on a full-width wall. Ask for a scaled wall preview or the printed repeat dimensions before committing.

Do not choose a pale print because someone says it will “make the room bigger,” or a dark one because it will “help you sleep.” Those are personal impressions. What you can check is whether the pattern and color look right beside the things already in your bedroom, under its actual light.
Match the material to the wall you have
Howdy's current product pages offer Standard Paper, Canvas Non Woven, and Peel and Stick Texture. Choose from the exact product's available options and instructions. A peel-and-stick wallpaper for a bedroom accent wall can suit the plan only if the selected material is approved for that wall and its paint finish. The name alone does not tell you how an adhesive will behave on fresh paint, texture, dust, or an old patch.
Before ordering, inspect the wall in side light. Is it smooth and sound, or can you feel bumps, loose paint, or uneven repairs? If you rent, check permission for wallcoverings and ask for the selected material's removal guidance. If you own the home, the same surface check still matters. Request Howdy's written preparation and installation instructions for the material you intend to buy; if sample testing is offered, test that exact combination where the instructions allow it. Do not treat “removable” as a promise that paint will be untouched.
Keep material selection separate from design selection. You may like a print immediately and still need to resolve whether the wall is suitable before placing a made-to-measure order.
Measure the entire intended wall, then confirm the crop
Measure the wall's full width and height, including the area behind the bed. Take width at the top, middle, and bottom, and height at the left, center, and right if the room is not perfectly square. Record the measurements and note windows, doors, sloped edges, and any built-in furniture. Do not silently subtract openings or add an assumed trim allowance; Howdy should tell you how it wants the final order dimensions entered for the chosen design.
Howdy's product configurator accepts width × height in inches, centimeters, or feet. Use one unit consistently. The business's sizing process includes edge material for installation tolerance, but no fixed extra-inch rule is confirmed for this article. If your wall is irregular or the mural has a subject that must clear the headboard, send Howdy the measurements and a straight-on wall photo before ordering. Ask where the image will be cropped and how large its main features will print.
For a repeat, also ask how the design will meet at panel seams and the visible outer edges. That small exchange can prevent the disappointing version of “the wallpaper looks different in the room” that a sample alone cannot settle.
A shortlist you can act on
Choose the wall from the doorway and bed, then shortlist a repeat or mural based on what will remain visible. Compare its main and background colors in the room's light. Confirm the selected material's surface instructions. Finally, measure the complete wall and approve the print scale and crop for that size.
When those answers are in place, browse Howdy's bedroom wallpaper collection. If a design's scale, material, or dimensions are unclear, send Howdy a room photo and your measurements before you order. A useful accent wall begins with the wall you have, not the empty one in a product preview.
